INEE is pleased to announce the formation of Arabic, French, Portuguese, and Spanish Translation Review Groups for the INEE Minimum Standards, 2024 Edition.

If, after reviewing the description and criteria, you are interested in applying to join this Translation Review Group, please complete the relevant online application forms noted below by 30 August 2024.

Background

During 2021-2024, INEE embarked on a project to update the INEE MS, 2010 Edition. The update focused on missing or incomplete topics, improving the clarity of the text, and adjusting the format and navigation of both digital and hardcopy versions of the handbook to increase accessibility and use. The INEE MS, 2024 Edition was launched in English in April 2024.

INEE Translation Review Groups (TRG) are formed to review initial translations of the INEE MS, 2024 Edition handbook by native-speaking EiE content experts in order to facilitate the understanding and use of the handbook by stakeholders in areas where the translation languages are used. The full Terms of Reference for the TRGs are available here, with a summary below.

Membership: 5-10 INEE members. Selection is based on individual qualifications as well as factors related to the overall composition of the TRG.

Time Commitment: ~15 hours each month for meetings, email correspondence, and activities.

Participation in a TRG is voluntary and unpaid.

Duration: ~3-5 months around the time the relevant translation is being prepared (estimated to occur from September 2024 to January 2025). The work may be extended as needed.

Tasks:

  • Review the initial translation with a diversity of linguistic and cultural views to ensure contextual relevance for a variety of audiences
  • Propose specific linguistic and grammar modifications as necessary
  • Ensure that inclusive language is used adequately within the translation
  • Write a short explanation of any particular approaches taken about linguistics, grammar, or the use of inclusive language in the translation, which may be included in the introduction of that language version of the INEE MS, 2024 Edition handbook
  • Endorse the final translation of the INEE MS, 2024 Edition

Application Process: Interested INEE members must complete the relevant online application form by the deadline indicated. TRG members are selected by the INEE Secretariat based on individual qualifications as well as factors related to the overall composition of the TRG, such as geographic and linguistic representation, type of EiE context, operational reach (local, national, regional), areas of expertise, gender balance, and more.
