Cristóbal Ayaviri Álvarez

Cristóbal Ayaviri Álvarez is the INEE Country Focal Point for Bolivia. He is currently a member of the Risk Management Education Roundtable (MEGERI) and since 2007 worked in the Ministry of Education and is a high school teacher. He has a degree in pedagogy specializing in youth and adult education, a diploma in higher education, and is about to complete a Master's degree in Risk Management.
Cristobal previously worked with several NGOs on “Popular Education” and has extensive experience in human rights, children's rights, women's rights and the rights of indigenous peoples (Ayoreo, Chiquitano-Lomerío and Izozog-Guaraní), as well as in gender, children and environment.
He notably worked as a technical officer for adult education in the Departmental Directorate of Education in Beni, Bolivia, and in the Ministry of Education with a focus on special education, risk management and education in coexistence with Mother Earth. He was also leading the primary education team. While working in the Ministry of Education, Cristobal joined the Project to Support Disaster Prevention in the Andean Community (PREDECAN) which incorporated risk management and climate change in the curriculum of the regular education subsystem, and organized, together with the Vice Ministry of Civil Defense, UNICEF, Save the Children and other institutions, the Risk Management Education Roundtable (MEGERI), which is led by the Ministry of Education. Added to this experience, he was also a consultant for UNICEF and Save the Children on risk management and climate change in education.
In a volunteer capacity, Cristobal was an advisor to the Fraternity of People with Disabilities and, later, to the Departmental Committee of People with Disabilities of Beni (CODEPEDIS-B). He was also a theater director and actor in “Popular Theater” and “Theater of the Oppressed” addressing issues such as human rights and violence against women, and was a host for radio programs dedicated to children's rights, women's rights, gender, violence against women and depatriarchalization. He participated in the Indigenous March “For Territory and Dignity” in 1990 from Trinidad to La Paz. Cristobal is Bolivian and speaks Spanish.
